Name your CM, treasury benches ask Left parties
Chennai: There were some amusing moments in the Assembly when treasury benches dared the Left to name the Chief Ministerial candidate for the four-parties led People’s Welfare Front (PWF).
As CPI (M) legislator K. Balakrishnan commenced his speech on the interim budget in the Assembly on Wednesday, finance minister O. Panneerselvam taunted him saying, “If there is no confusion in your alliance, why don’t you name your chief ministerial candidate?”
“There is no confusion in our alliance,” Balakrishnan said and began to speak on the interim budget. However, power minister Natham R. Viswanathan intervened and reminded him to reply to the question. A cornered Balakrishnan reiterated that there was no confusion in the Vaiko-led PWF and that a decision on the CM candidate would be taken only after the Assembly election.
“Since you are showing so much interest in the PWF, (I think), the front will emerge victorious,” Mr Balakrishnan retorted.
The PWF was floated recently by the MDMK, VCK, CPI and CPI (M) to “provide an alternative” to the Dravidian rule in the state. The front had even commenced a joint campaign for the upcoming Assembly election.
