Hyderabad: Scrap-picker killed in blast
Hyderabad: A scrap-picker was killed and another person was injured in an explosion when the former opened a big paint can in Narsingi area. Police suspect that the paint had crossed its expiry date and the blast occurred due to chemical reaction.
Pieces of the plastic can pierced the stomach, thighs, and testicles of the victim. A bomb disposal squad and forensic experts reached the spot and collected the remains of the paint box for examination.
Police said the scrap-picker P, Vijaykumar, 43, of Manchirevula village, picked up the can from a construction site and brought it to his village to sell it to a scrap dealer. On Wednesday morning, he put the paint can between his legs and tried to open by hitting its cap. The can exploded and he died on the spot,” said inspector P. Ramachandra Rao, “The can had at least 10 litres paint. There was some chemical reaction as it was old,” he said. The injured, Mallesh, suffered only received minor injuries. Scrap shop owner Ramulu escaped without any injury.
A case under section 174 CrPc was booked by the police to investigate the case.
