Compensation to residents hit by metro extension to be doubled
Chennai: Chennai metro rail along with Tiruvallur district revenue officials on Wednesday conducted a public hearing with agitating residents fearing land acquisition and assured them that compensation would be doubled.
Residents of Thiruvottriyur, Sathangadu, and Ernavur are against the depot coming up at Wimco Nagar and metro stations at Toll Gate, Thangal, Gowri Nagar. Residents and land owners were assured a compensation of double the land value, on the guidelines of the new Land Acquisition Act, 2013.
A notice had been issued to all land owners on January 25, following which this meeting was held on Wednesday at Ambattur taluk office, presided by the land acquisition officer and Ambattur tahsildar. The building evaluation will be done by the PWD.
“All residents who will have to give up their lands will be compensated according to the land acquisition Act,” said the District Revenue Officer.
Responding to people who said their livelihood will be affected by this upcoming project, he assured that it is under consideration and steps will be taken at the appropriate time.
