Chennai, Tambaram to have Dalit women as Mayors

Chennai: Chennai and Tambaram Corporations will be electing Schedule Caste Women as Mayors in the coming urban local body elections as per the reservation of the posts, notified by the government on Monday.

The Avadi Mayor post has been reserved for Schedule Caste (general) candidates, while the Mayors of nine other Corporations would be women (general), the notification, issued ahead of the announcement of the elections, said.

The cities for women are: Cuddalore, Dindigul, Vellore, Karur, Sivakasi, Kanchipuram, Madurai, Coimbatore and Erode.
