M K Stalin's wish to capture power via shortcut won't happen, says Jayakumar

Hence, it was in this context that he had yesterday remarked all the DMK MLAs are happy with the state government, Jayakumar explained.

Chennai: Alleging that DMK president M.K. Stain is seeking a shortcut in his desperate attempt to capture power, fisheries minister D. Jayakumar said there will not be any quickest route for Stalin, as the AIADMK will last its till 2021 and again return to power.

“Why is DMK president Stalin showing urgency? He wants to capture power to become Chief Minister through shortcut. He presumes that early poll to the Assembly will help to achieve his ambition. But this will never materialise,” Jayakumar said on Thursday. Speaking to reporters here the Minister said even if Stalin wishes for elections, his party legislators would not desire it because all the MLAs who make it to the Assembly know pretty well that they should fulfill their social obligation by ensuring the Assembly tenure is completed.

Also, the MLAs would be in a dilemma on whether they would be able to get the party tickets to contest again and if they would win yet another term, if the election to Assembly is thrust. “So, they would all be in favour of completing their term in office because the position of MLAs is a ‘big post,’ which comes with responsibility to serve the people. Hence they would not wish for elections,” he said. Hence, it was in this context that he had yesterday remarked all the DMK MLAs are happy with the state government,” Jayakumar explained.

On an average at least Rs 3,000 crore of tax money would be spent per Assembly constituency to conduct the poll. People don’t want elections till 2021, and they want the duly elected AIADMK government to last till then and return to power again, he added.
