Kozhikode to get local traffic advisory

The police authorities have made several other action plans for an effective traffic system in the city.

KOZHIKODE: The city will soon have local traffic advisory committees of stakeholders of a particular area to discuss traffic congestions and suggest improvements as per the new reforms to ensure road safety and streamline traffic flow.

The police authorities have made several other action plans for an effective traffic system in the city.

“After discussing with the local advisory committee, our officials will come up with infrastructural requirements, which would focus on making junctions and road stretches obstruction free with zebra crossings, centre and stop lines, parking spaces, the possibility of one-ways and many others," city police commissioner Sanjay Kumar Gurudin said.

They will initiate a special drive by the participation of Station House Officers (SHOs) along with the traffic police for the verification of signals and its working conditions. The SHOs will also study whether the timer settings of traffic lights need to be changed as per traffic density.

Presence of SHOs and all other officers including ACPs will be seen on the road during school timings. Steps would be initiated to ensure traffic safety signals or boards, road markings such as zebra crossings and stop lines are visible and obstruction free.

"The bad behaviour of drivers and other staff towards children in school vehicles would not be tolerated, and strict action is taken if any of such cases are brought to our notice," he said.

"More than 50 per cent of deaths happening here is to the motorbike riders, and most of them are avoidable if they had used a helmet. So we will take measures to ensure cent per cent wear one."
