Yes, Bengaluru is most dynamic in world

City beats London, Silicon Valley: Davos report

Chicago & London: The country’s tech capital Bengaluru has been rated the most dynamic city in the world by the City Momentum Index (CMI), drawn up by a professional services and investment management firm JLL.

This is the first time that Bengaluru has moved to the top slot, while five other Indian cities have also featured in the CMI Global Top 30. In fact, India has snatched the lead from China as home to some of the world’s fastest-changing cities, taking six of the top 30, compared with China’s five, revealed the report, which was part of the ongoing World Economic Forum summit in Davos.

Bengaluru has pipped London (6), which was ranked first last year, New York (14), Paris (17) and Los Angeles (27) to make it to the top slot.

“What has become apparent is that these cities are now becoming more tightly networked and most are outperforming their national economies. These cities integrate change and technology into their DNA, seek to sustain momentum and innovation by cultivating their research and educational capabilities, and by investing in infrastructure,” it said.

Liveability surfaced as an increasingly important driver of momentum, as it is key to attracting talent, while the environment is also becoming a more critically determining factor in the index. Although in the top 30, Delhi (No. 23) and Beijing (No. 15) were hindered by poor environmental scores.

The report stated that the CMI isn’t a measure of the “best” cities in which to invest.

It’s only intended to identify change and highlight which cities or metropolitan areas may be best at positioning themselves to compete in today’s ever-changing economic landscape, it said.
