LDF, UDF in joint protest

The state government had earlier categorically stated that CAA will not be implemented in the state.

Thiruvananthapuram: The ruling Left Democratic Front (LDF) and the Opposition United Democratic Front (UDF) came on a common platform on Monday to protest against the Citizenship (Amendment) Act.

Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and Opposition leader Ramesh Chennithala led the three-hour long satyagraha at the Martyr’s Column in Palayam in the capital. Ministers, top leaders and elected representatives of both the Fronts took part in the satyagraha which began at 10 am.

The state government had earlier categorically stated that CAA will not be implemented in the state. While making the statement, the CM had described the Act as divisive and targeted against minorities.

In his address at the satyagraha, the Chief Minister hit out at the Narendra Modi government. “If you say that minorities cannot be given citizenship, no matter who says it, it won’t be accepted in Kerala,” Vijayan said.
