Bengaluru: 7 students blackmail collegemate after planting drugs
Bengaluru: Close on the heels of six students barging into an apartment of a dental student and planting drugs to extort money in Hebbal, a similar incident has been reported from Rajankunte where another student became a victim of the same modus operandi.
In the latest incident, a gang of seven students last Wednesday assaulted, blackmailed and extorted money from a student in Manasandra. The Rajanukunte police have registered a case of extortion against Rahman, Hussain, Mafeed, Acquin, Aashiq and two others.
The student complainant alleged that the gang barged into his apartment and accused him of peddling drugs, before locking him in along with his other roommates. The accused then planted a packet of drugs, took videos on their mobile phones and assaulted him to make him confess to possessing drugs.
The accused threatened him that they would inform the police and foist a drug peddling case against him. They forcibly took his wallet, mobile phone, bag and bike. As the accused continued to threaten and demand money from him, he filed a complaint, the police said.
The police have registered a case of extortion, wrongful restraint, assault and intentional insult to provoke breach of peace against the accused.
The police are now hunting for the accused who are said to be on the run.
Last week, six students had barged into the apartment of a dental student in Hebbal and had placed marijuana in his flat. They had then blackmailed him and extorted over Rs 50,000. The accused were later arrested by the Hebbal police.
