In Hyderabad, Lambada groups protest clashes

Police took dozens of Lambada community members, mainly students, into preventive custody.

Hyderabad: Scores of Lambada community members, mostly students studying in the city, took to the streets here on Saturday, protesting the alleged attack on the community at Utnoor in Adilabad district on Friday. Rallies were held at Dilsukhnagar, LB Nagar and SR Nagar, where activists burnt the effigy of Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao and raised slogans against the government. About 130 protesters were detained in the Rachakonda commissionerate limits.

The students demanded that strict action should be taken on the Adivasis who had assaulted their community members in Utnoor on Friday. Security has been beefed up at vulnerable locations in the city. “The situation is under control. To prevent any untoward situation, the police is ready and forces have been mobilised for immediate response,” said a senior official from the city.
