Hyderabad: Citizens want completion of all metro routes
Hyderabad: With work on 59 Metro stations nearing completion, there is a strong buzz among citizens and the government that the remaining parts must be finished soon. Twenty-four stations are already in operation and the remaining 35 are at various stages of completion. Traction, electricity, signalling and other works are being carried out from the viaduct till the platform level. With commuter strength continues to be 1 lakh per day since the inauguration, citizens and various groups have requested though the elected representatives that the works on other Metro corridors must be completed soon.
A senior government officer said, “Convenience and comfort of travelling especially for students and women have got many citizens enquiring when will the remaining works be completed. There is a lot of activity from the Jubliee Hills stretch to Hitec City. On the other side, from Musheerabad to Malakpet, the works are completed. Hence, there is lot of expectation and demand to start the network at the earliest.” However, there are a few issues to be sorted out.
A senior officer, on condition of anonymity, said, “We have issues in bringing down the staircase at four different sides. That is a challenge which has to be dealt with. The land acquisition department has to ensure that these properties are acquired on time and handed over to Metro Rail.”
