Cyclone Ockhi: Death toll mounts to 70 in Kerala

Officials say that seven dead bodies are yet to be identified in Thiruvananthapuram district alone.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The death toll in Ockhi cyclone in the state increased to 70 after two more bodies were recovered on Thursday. The two bodies were recovered from Kozhikode district. According to state control room, the number of missing fishermen remained at 95. The Latin Catholic Church, however, said 250 fishermen including 100 who went in small boats were still missing. Search operations continued in various parts of the state for the missing fishermen and to retrieve the bodies.

Officials said that seven bodies are yet to be identified in Thiruvananthapuram district. Three bodies each are kept at the medical college and Sri Chitra institute mortuary and general hospital mortuary. Of the nine bodies recovered from Kochi, three have been identified and the rest are kept at Ernakulam general hospital, Thrippunithura and Aluva government hospitals respectively.
