Bengaluru: SC Jayachandra whisked out of prison, put in CBI custody

The CBI Special Court had on Thursday granted interim bail to the tainted officer.

Bengaluru: Before completing the interim bail formalities and walking out of the prison, the suspended Chief Planning Officer of the Karnataka State Highways Improvement Project, S. C. Jayachandra, was taken into the custody by the CBI officials on Friday.

The CBI Special Court had on Thursday granted interim bail to the tainted officer. But as he could not arrange two sureties, he was remanded to judicial custody. While his family and advocates were making arrangements to furnish sureties, the CBI filed a petition in the court seeking his custody. Considering their request, the judge granted them the permission to take his custody.

Soon after obtaining a body warrant from the court, a CBI team rushed to the Parappana Agrahara central prison and produced the body warrant before the jail officials. They immediately took Jayachandra to custody and left to the office in Ganganagar. Later, he was produced before the judge, who remanded the accused in CBI custody for five days.

The CBI had earlier registered an FIR against the Jayachandra and others following an IT raid on his residence that unearthed illegal wealth including wads of newly introduced Rs 2,000 currencies.
