Anbumani Ramadoss seeks Rs 5,000 crore from PM

Around 12,000 electric posts have been broken and nearly 1,000 transformers have been damaged.

Chennai: PMK leader and Dharmapuri MP Dr Anbumani Ramadoss on Friday urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to provide an assistance of Rs 5,000 crore towards relief and rehabilitation for the havoc created by the Cyclone Vardah in Chennai and its suburbs.

In a memorandum submitted to the Prime Minister's Office in New Delhi, Dr Anbumani said that the Centre should immediately release a sum of Rs 1,000 crore for taking up the relief measures to bring back normalcy in the affected areas.

“The Vardha cyclone has uprooted nearly 15,000 trees across Chennai, Thiuvallur and Kanchipuram Districts and impaired the roads, telephone and electricity infrastructure completely.

Around 12,000 electric posts have been broken and nearly 1,000 transformers have been damaged. Due to this, all the three districts are currently facing a complete blackout. Though EB staffs from all across the State have been brought to the city to undertake reconstruction measures, nearly 40% areas still continue to operate in the dark,” he said.

PMK leader also demanded Mr Modi to take steps to constitute the Cauvery Management Board to bring an end to the interstate river water dispute.
