Hyderabad: I-T associations are using various techniques to ensure that there is decent voter turnout from Cyberabad.

She shuttles run by Cyberabad Security Council will deployed to help differently abled voters to travel to polling booths to cast their votes in the IT corridor.

Mr Bharani Kumar Aroll, general secretary of Cyberabad Security Council, said, “We are talking to IT companies about the elections. We will be send mailers to the companies seeking their participation. Only in the IT corridor, we are hoping that there will be at least a 10 per cent increase in voter turnout.”

It is crucial that techies do not use the holiday on December 7 a Friday and convert it into a long weekend and go away on a mini-vacation and skip voting.

While it is good opportunity for Telangana techies to go to native places, the downside is that other techies may not be casting vote as this is an Assembly election and they are not interested in local politics. Since putting up flyers and posters is not creating a lasting impact,

I-T associations are looking at ways accessible to techies to ensure participation in elections.

They are doing this through hackathons and online hashtag campaign #Awazdohtechies.

Mr Sandeep Kumar Makthala of Telangana IT Association said, “We are conducting political hackathons for the first time. About 200 techies participated, their understanding will increase and they will spread the word.”

While previous hackathons were conducted in Phoenix, the next one will be conducted at DLF and Mindspace.

Flash mobs in form of Ungli dance, which were done during the GHMC elections involving techies, will be also be performed.

In the GHMC elections, however, Madhapur and Miyapur recorded 37.88 and 37.25 per cent voting. Only Gachibowli voted above the city turnout of 45 per cent with 47.21 per cent voting.
