DGE to allow all candidates to appear for instant exams
Chennai: After scrapping private exams held in the months of September and October, the directorate of government examinations has decided to allow all private candidates to write the instant exams in June/July from next academic year.
As per the existing system, the candidates who could not clear the class 10 and plus 2 board exams in March alone can write June/July instant exams.
“Since the private exams in September and October months are cancelled from 2019, the directorate has decided to allow all candidates from class 10, plus 1 and plus 2 to appear for the June/July exams,” said D.Vasundradevi, director of government examinations in a release on Friday.
Last year, the state government has converted plus 1 exam as board exam. It has taken the total number of students appearing for the board exams in the state to 27 lakhs.
The examination related works like paper setting, printing the question paper and answer booklets, allotting exam centres and evaluating answer scripts are the same for both March and October board exams. Plus the board is also conducting the instant exams in June.
“To ease the burden on DGE, the state government decided to scrap the September/October exams. The decision makes sense as they have to wait till next academic year for admission in the higher educational institutions,” sources said.
For each class, around 40,000 to 50,000 private candidates are applying for the exams in October.
