Telugu is mandatory in all schools and junior college: Kadiam Srihari

Hyderabad: Deputy Chief Minister Kadiam Srihari on Thursday told Legislative Council that the government had made teaching of Telugu language mandatory in all schools and junior college from 2018. Mr Srihari, who is also the education minister, was replying to TRS members Gangadhar Goud and N. Laxman Rao question. He said the education department had constituted a steering committee under the chairmanship of Telugu University Vice-Chancellor S.V. Satyanarayana to submit a report to implement the measure.

He said it was likely that there could be different syllabii for English medium students as the government had decided to include Telugu as a compulsory subject. He said it was the wish of Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao that whoever studied in Telangana schools and colleges should have basic knowledge of the Telugu language.
