Long way for Andhra Pradesh to reach 80 percent satisfaction level

Government report says 58 percent of respondents satisfied with government schemes, programmes.

Hyderabad: AP Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has a long way to go to reach his target of bringing satisfaction level of the people of the state to 80 per cent. It stands at 58 per cent. Mr Naidu is of the opinion that more focus should be given to welfare programmes as it would not be possible to satisfy the people only with development schemes. Mr Naidu has set a deadline of two years to officials to increase the level to 80 per cent. The government has started taken welfare programmes to attract several sections of society but corruption at the lower level by politicians and officials is damaging the image of the government.

Among those polled to gauge the mood of the state, 58 per cent expressed satisfaction and 42 per cent said they were not. The dissatisfaction level is more in Rayalaseema including Chittoor, the home district of the Chief Minister, as compared to Krishna, Guntur and West Godavari. Kadapa district tops the dissatisfaction level with 47 per cent followed by Kurnool (46 per cent) and Nellore (45 per cent). In all other districts the dissatisfaction level is more than 40 per cent.

Mr Naidu has told officials that he was also the president of a party and would have to seek the people’s mandate every five years. The TD could come to power again if the public satisfaction level was improved to 80 per cent. The government collected public opinion about 10 schemes including pensions, ration and housing. As many as 76 per cent of respondents said they were satisfied with old age pensions. The number of dissatisfied respondents was more in Anantapur, Kurnool and Kadapa districts.

On the implementation of the widow pension scheme 77 per cent expressed satisfaction, with Kurnool, Kadapa and Krishna topping those dissatisfied. Regarding supplying of rations 70 per cent expressed satisfaction. Kadapa, Kurnool, Srikakulam and Nellore districts had the most number of dissatisfied respondents. In housing, 84 per cent expressed satisfaction over sanction of new houses. In receiving grants for the housing scheme, the satisfaction level fell to 60 per cent. The reasons for dissatisfaction was money not coming through (82 per cent), officer’s negligence (8 per cent) and delay (9 per cent). In the housing programme 77 of the respondents said officers had taken bribe and 23 per cent said politicians had taken bribe.
