Pinarayi Vijayan, MPs will meet Narendra Modi
Thiruvananthapuram: Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said all MPs of Kerala would meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Finance Minister Arun Jaitely to resolve the current crisis in cooperative banking sector arising out of RBI curbs. After a meeting with the MPs of the state in Delhi, the Chief Minister told media person that the curbs imposed by RBI on district cooperative banks for exchanging demonetised Rs 500 and Rs 1000 notes had plunged into a major crisis. "Kerala's primary cooperative banks are heading towards a grinding halt,” he said and pointed out that these banks had deposits worth more than 1 lakh crore rupees and these institutions played a crucial role in providing relief to the poor.
He said the functioning of most banks had been badly affected. “We want to apprise the Prime Minister of the special nature of cooperative sector in the state. We will urge the Centre to take measures to ensure that primary cooperative banks are able to carry out transactions without any hurdle,” he said. Meanwhile, Congress Working Committee (CWC) member A K Antony said in Delhi that union finance minister had assured that he would discuss the matter with the RBI to resolve the crisis in state’s cooperative sector. While the idea of checking black money by demonetising currency notes was a good, the government took immediate measures without doing proper home work and preparations he said pointing to the hardships being faced by the common man.
Antony said he would stand united with everyone on the issue of cooperative sector, irrespective of the political differences. "There are certain issues and problems related to the cooperative banks. But finance minister has promised to take up the matter with RBI,” he said. The former defence minister said the BJP Government at the Centre had shown how a good policy can be implemented in a worst manner.
