No outcome of Godavari and Krishna river board meet

The meeting discussed the allotment of water releases to the individual states for the Rabi crop requirements.

Hyderabad: The Godavari and Krishna River Management Boards, constituted under the AP Reorganisation Act, met on Wednesday. Officials of TS and AP attended the meeting but the item on the agenda, on bringing all Godavari-based irrigation projects under the Board’s control, could not be finalised.

As officials from both states as well as the chairman and member secretary of the two Boards are the same, the meeting discussed the allotment of water releases to the individual states for the Rabi crop requirements. However, as AP officials sought two days to finalise their requirements, the Board decided to meet again on the issue.

While AP has been objecting to new projects taken up on Godavari by TS, like Kaleswaram and Tammidihatti, Telangana is objecting to the exclusion of Pattiseema, Sileru and Polavaram projects from the Board’s control.

However, the issue of inclusion of projects and preparation of a working manual did not come up in the meeting as it was decided to finalise the issues in the next meeting.

GRMB chairman Ram Saran Gupta, member-secretary Sameer Chatterjee, special chief secretary for irrigation S.K. Joshi and engineer-in-chief C. Muralidhar (Telangana), water resources secretary Sashi Bhushan Kumar, and engineer-in-chief M. Venkateswara Rao (AP) attended the meeting.
