Hyderabad: While IITs have retained elite positions in QS India ranking 2019, the University of Hyderabad (UoH) has been placed at the 7th rank among all the higher educational institutions in the country, ahead of IIT Roorkee and IIT Guwahati whereas IIT Hyderabad secured the 16th rank. Osmania University secured the 34th rank in Telangana state whereas in Andhra Pradesh; Andhra University secured the 46th rank followed by JNTUH Anantapur scoring between 61-65 ranks.
As many as 75 premier institutes of the country have been placed in the QS India ranking 2019. The Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay, has secured the top spot in the first-ever standalone ranking of Indian higher education institutions released on Monday at Delhi.
QS World University Rankings is a publication of university rankings, published annually by the British company Quacquarelli Symonds (QS).
The parameters on which the rankings were judged include Academic Reputation, Employer Reputation, Faculty Student Ratio, Staff with PhD, Citations per Paper, Papers per Faculty, International Faculty and International Students.
The UoH has an overall score of 69.6 out of 100. UoH got 99.6 on 100 in the Staff with PhD parameter followed by 95.8 on 100 in faculty Student ratio; 87.6 on 100 in Papers per Faculty and 81.8 on 100 in Citations per paper.
The University of Hyderabad (UoH) is now among the top 9 per cent of the Institutions ranked by QS in the BRICS Rankings 2019. Of the 400 higher education institutions ranked in Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa (BRICS), UoH is ranked at 36.
Professor Appa Rao Podile, Vice-Chancellor, UoH says, “I am happy that the University of Hyderabad is doing well and has been ranked among the top institutions among the BRICS countries. It is also heartening to note that UoH is the top-ranked multidisciplinary university in the country. While we can be happy about our performance, it will put more responsibility on the University to better its performance to achieve higher standards. I congratulate all faculty, staff, students and alumni for this achievement. We need to focus on improving on all parameters to be among the world’s best institutions,” he added.
