Tamil Nadu to take action if Centre enacts laws

Sometimes there could be chances for misusing it. The Centre has said that it would act on it.

Chennai: The state government will bestow attention on implementing the laws enacted by the Central government to tackle the issues arising out of the allegations through the #MeToo movement, state information and publicity minister Kadambur C. Raju has said.

“This (allegations raised through the #MeToo movement) is not confined to Tamil Nadu. It is a nationwide problem. Sometimes there could be chances for misusing it. The Centre has said that it would act on it. The state government will bestow attention in implementing any laws enacted by the Centre,” Mr Raju told reporters after paying floral tributes to freedom fighter Veerapandiya Kattabomman in Kayathar in the southern district of Thoothukudi on Tuesday.

As the issue turned into alarming proportions with several prominent personalities including Union Minister, journalists and those from cine filed being accused of sexual harassment, Union women and child development minister Maneka Gandhi said that the Centre would form a panel of judges to advise it on cases of sexual assault and harassment that have surfaced as part of the #MeToo movement in India.
