Rebuild Kerala: LDF to discuss KPMG role

The LDF state committee will discuss the matter, and the future decision would be subject to its approval.

Thiruvananthapuram: The LDF will take a call on what role the consultant partner KMPG will have in the rebuilding Kerala exercise.

Though the Cabinet was expected to decide on involving KPMG in the implementation stage, a section of ministers felt that a political consensus was required on the matter before deciding on the foreign consultant.

The LDF state committee will discuss the matter, and the future decision would be subject to its approval.

Cabinet decided to constitute four committees including an advisory committee headed by the chief minister to examine the projects.

The Cabinet will be the supreme authority to approve all projects.

The advisory committee will comprise of opposition leader, union minister Alphons Kannanthanam, ministers to be nominated by the chief minister, chief secretary, planning board vice chairman, former bureaucrats T K A Nair and K M Chandrashekhar, Mr. Byju Raveendran of BYJU's App, Alisa Vaidhyan, M.A. Yousuf Ali, Dr K.P. Kannan, former HUDCO chairman V Suresh and Dr Muralee Thummarukudy.

The main task of the advisory committee will be to issue guidelines and advise on schemes. The first meeting of the committee will be on October 22.

A high power committee will be constituted with chief secretary as chairman. Department secretaries, two ex officio members and chief minister’s secretary will be part of the panel. It will examine the schemes forward by the executive committee approval from Cabinet and high power committee.

The committee will monitor the implementation of schemes, coordinate with different departments and also advise the government on resource mobilisation.

The executive committee will function below the high power committee headed by former chief secretary Dr K M Abraham. Dr V Venu will be the CEO.

A secretariat system will be formed for the implementation of rebuilding state project. It will also coordinate the activities at the district level.
