Chennai: A day after a woman and her paramour were arrested for striking her husband with an iron rod and staging a robbery, the husband died on Monday night. Kathiravan, 27, was admitted to Malar Hospital after his wife, Anitha, 25, took him to to Thiruvanmiyur beach on the pretext of spending a Sunday afternoon but struck him with an iron rod with the help of her paramour, identified as Antony Jegan, 25.
Anitha and Antony Jegan allegedly attempted to kill Kathiravan and faked a crime scene to make it look like the handiwork of robbers at Thiruvanmiyur beach, police sources said.
Soon, Anitha rushed to the police station and complained that an unknown man had hit Kathiravan with an iron rod and escaped with 12 sovereigns of gold jewels and two mobile phones. She lodged a complaint at the Thiruvanmiyur police station while Kathiravan was admitted to a private hospital.
“Suspecting inside play we enquired Anitha who gave unsatisfactory replies about the incident,” Deputy Commissioner, Adyar Shashank Sai had said.
When Anitha was further questioned, she confessed to the crime, which she had committed with her paramour, identified as Antony Jegan (25), who is pursuing second year MA in History at Madurai Kamaraj University.
Anitha and Antony Jegan had fallen in love a year ago but when she told her parents, they didn't approve of it. They then forced her to marry Kathiravan and the couple shifted to Chennai, police said,
There, Anitha had planned to murder Kathiravan with the help of Antony Jegan. Anitha also confessed that when the couple had gone on a honeymoon trip to Kotagiri last month the first attempt to murder Kathiravan was made, which failed.
Based on Anitha's confession, the police nabbed Antony Jegan from his hostel at Vilathikulam in Madurai. The two have been remanded under judicial custody.
