Hyderabad: Sudden rain brings relief, misery too
Hyderabad: The weather took a drastic turn on Tuesday evening; a spell of rain accompanied by loud thunder slashed the city and brought it to a grinding halt. The temperature dropped by 10 degrees towards the evening. Knee level waterlogging was reported at major intersections in the city. Traffic was thrown out of gear.
The change in weather is a result of a trough (deep depression) running across coastal Andhra Pradesh to Telangana and a cyclonic circulation over northern interior Karnataka. This is likely to bring heavy rainfall to the southern districts of TS in the next 24 hours, say weather officials.
Across the state too, a high quantum of rainfall was registered on Tuesday. Chinna Chinta Kunta and Jadcherla of Mahbubnagar recorded the maximum rainfall.
IMD has issued a weather warning for the state in the next 24 hours: Thunderstorm accompanied with lightning are very likely to occur at isolated places in the districts of Vikarabad, Ranga Reddy, Hyderabad, Warangal (urban/rural) Mahbubnagar, Jagtyal, Wanaparthi, Khammam of Telangana.
The city could witness rain or thundershowers towards evening or night for the next three days.
Maximum rainfall of 3 cm was recorded at Madhapur, Begumpet, Srinagar colony, Jubilee Hills and West Marredpally.
Roads turned into swimming pools within 40 minutes of heavy rain in
areas like Madhapur, Hitec City, Mindspace junction, Kondapur, Jubliee Hills. Slow movement of traffic was witness from Jubliee Hills road number 36/10 towards Madhapur.
Commuters complained of waterlogging due to which the city witnessed bumper to bumper traffic.
