Hold ward panel meetings: Citizens for Bengaluru to Mayor Gangambike

That was why we appealed to the new Mayor to announce regular ward committee meetings and assured her of active citizen participation.

Bengaluru: The Citizens for Bengaluru, an umbrella organisation that was instrumental in getting the controversial steel flyover scrapped, as part of their second anniversary of citizens coming together, met newly elected Mayor Gangambike and requested her to start monthly ward committee meetings from November 1, Karnataka Rajyotsava Day.

Mr Srinivas Alavilli, one of the founders of CfB, said, “CfB is an apolitical citizen movement fighting for a liveable, sustainable Bengaluru. We strongly believe that garbage, bad roads, potholes, pollution, public transport and other issues can be best addressed when more citizens participate in local governance and decision making. We championed ward committees, because they offer the best platform for decentralised governance."

He said, “However, we are disappointed that ward committee meetings are not happening despite court orders. That was why we appealed to the new Mayor to announce regular ward committee meetings and assured her of active citizen participation. She appreciated our suggestion, responded positively and assured us of action soon in the form of a circular or public announcement,” said Ms Tara Krishnaswamy, co-founder of CfB.
