Hyderabad: The state government will procure 53 lakh metric tonnes (MT) of paddy from farmers in the ongoing financial year. Of this, 28 lakh MT will be procured in the Kharif season and 25 lakh MT during Rabi.
The MSP for common variety of rice has been increased from Rs 1,470 to Rs 1,550 per quintal, and for Grade-A from Rs 1,510 to Rs 1,590. This was stated in the paddy procurement policy released for 2017-18 which aims to ensure minimum support price for farmers, ending the role of middlemen at market yards and checking irregularities in paddy procurment and milling of rice.
A tollfree number has been established to enable farmers lodge complaints in case of violation of norms at market yards. Civil supplies commissioner C.V. Anand said the Kharif rice procurement will begin next week.
