Rohini fire: 199 patients rescued
Warangal: A man and a woman died in a fire that broke out at the Rohini super speciality hospital in Hanamkonda on Monday evening.
There was chaos inside the hospital after the fire broke out. The hospital staff moved all patients outside the hospital building. There were 199 patients in the hospital at the time, including 50 in the intensive care unit.
They were shifted to other nearby private hospitals in ambulances. Police and fire-fighters had to break the window panes to get into the hospital to rescue patients.
Dr Vijaya Chander Reddy, a member of the hospital management, said due to the fire safety measures inside the hospital, they were able to ensure that the fire did not spread to other rooms. “We called up other nearby hospitals and requested them to accommodate some of the patients. We shifted them in ambulances. We were able to save all the patients except one,” he said.
Deputy chief minister Kadiam Srihari inspected the operation theatre where the fire broke out. He enquired about the safety of the patients and directed the police to conduct a thorough enquiry into the incident. “Once the enquiry is complete we will be able to find out what caused the fire and who is responsible,” he said.
