It's all glee for Transco, Genco
Hyderabad: The unexpected heavy inflow of water into the Jurala and Srisailam projects have brought cheer to Genco, which is generating millions of units of hydel power and is even selling surplus electricity.
Transco is in such a comfortable position at present that it is able to even sell power. Genco is generating about 29 million units (MU) hydel from the two projects.
From October 8, it has been generating 21 MU at Srisailam. The average hydel generation at the project is 11 MU.
From Upper Jurala, Genco is generating an average of 4.3 MU from October 6, and 3.5 MU at Lower Jurala from October 11.
This excess generation has come on top of falling demand for electricity. The power demand stood at 148.23 MU on October 1 and rose to 158.28 MU on October 8 but fell to 139 MU on Sunday.
On Sunday, TS Transco purchased 78 MW from the power exchange but only 1 MW on Monday. After a long time, Transco began selling power at night, when the power demand falls. Genco is selling 3 MU to 4 MU daily, and earning about Rs 4 crore.
Of its estimated hydel generation of 1,400 MU in the current financial year, it has generated about 800 MU so far.
