CBSE: Foreign language to be elective
From the next academic year, options will not be provided for foreign languages.
Hyderabad: The CBSE’s three-language will continue till Class 10 against the current practice of letting students choose their second language other than English after Class 8. From the next academic year, options will not be provided for foreign languages.
Ms Vandana Rao, a teacher, said, “According to what we have heard, foreign language will be taught as a ‘fourth language’ or elective. Students have no choice but to learn three Indian languages.” There are a list of 22 languages for students to choose from. This move was proposed by CBSE to ensure that indigenous languages get importance.
