Anantapur: Unrelenting rains leave farmers high and dry
ANANTAPUR: Motor pump mechanics were busy after hundreds of water pumping motors were damaged due to heavy rains and inundation of residential colonies in urban parts of Anantapur and Kadapa districts. Recent floods in Anantapur submerged low lying areas and the drinking water motors in APHB Colony, Jesus Nagar, Rangaswamy Nagar and many other parts.
M. Pandurangachar from APHB Colony said, “The drinking water motor pump of a private tap connection was damaged soon after it was submerged.” “The mechanic confirmed that the wiring of the motor was burnt due to short circuit and it was sent for repair, but we need to wait for four days to get the motor,” he said and further added that currently water is taken from neighbours.
Bharathibai, another resident lamented that most of the electronic goods like washing machine, fridge and cooler were damaged. Again, both motor pumps of borewell and private tap connections were burnt due to the short circuit. Mechanics were busy repairing a huge number of damaged motors in Anantapur. A mechanic K. Pullaiah said rewinding work shops were taking at least four days time to repair the motors.
Heavy losses due to the rains has forced the public to stage a protest at Anantapur Municipal Corporation office demanding compensation for the loss incurred due to the heavy rains. Rangaswamy Nagar area people met the Municipal commissioner and asked for compensation.
