More than 50 hospitals in Hyderabad not registered

District medical and health officer Dr P. Padmaja visited the seven clinics that had used the banned trivalent oral polio vaccine.

Hyderabad: The recent survey of the district medical and health officer has revealed that more than 50 small nursing homes operating in the city are not registered with the health department.

A senior officer said the six MBBS doctors and the Unani doctor who had been served notices for using banned trivalent oral polio vaccine were among those who had not registered themselves with the district medical and health office, Telangana Medical Council, Unani Doctors Association and the Indian Medical Association.

“Some of them are new with only three years in the field and others have been around for more than 20 years,” he said.

By not being registered, these hospitals do not get circulars notifying diseases and banning vaccines and drugs and medical updates.

District medical and health officer Dr P. Padmaja visited the seven clinics that had used the banned trivalent oral polio vaccine and served notice on them.

A source said that the pressure from the state government to find out the cause for the presence of the polio vaccine derived virus had resulted in field workers and health officials being asked to personally verify the case before serving notice.

They also found that the medical certificates of doctors and the tariff rates were not being displayed. Notice has been served and the shortcomings must be rectified in 15 days failing which the clinics will face action.
