Police to arrange ambulance and track them down.

Kozhikode: Vadakara municipality, police and the NGO ‘Thanal’ have joined hands to launch a programme for the women and children who wander the streets at nights. “We will identify such people, provide them food, shelter and find a permanent place to rehabilitate them,” said K. Shreedharan, Vadakara municipality chairman. Vadakara police will arrange a vehicle and ambulance to track down such people every day between 7 pm and 9 pm. The municipality is entrusted with providing them shelter and ‘Thanal’ will arrange food. “A volunteer group comprising 100 youth will be formed.Half a dozen volunteers will be used to search daily to find women and children sleeping in unsafe conditions,” said Vadakara Inspector A. Umesh.

Dr Idris. V, Chairman of Thanal said that each of the rescued people should be diagnosed and treated. Other long term requirements of the rescued people would be met through sponsorships. Imparting vocational training, facilitating self employment opportunities are some of the ideas. A committee has been formed to implement the project with K. Shreedharan as Chairman, A. Umesh as convenor and Dr Idris as coordinator. The project will start next month.
