Khammam in the grip of viral fevers, dengue

Nearly 506 pregnant women, and those who had just delivered, came to the Kendram on Friday

Khammam: An alarming rise in viral fevers has spread fear across Khammam district. Of the 600 to 900 patients, who have been rushing to the district headquarters hospital every day for the past ten days, nearly 80 per cent of them are confirmed cases of viral fever. To add to this fear is the rise in dengue cases with nearly 32 cases reported on Friday alone.

In a timely move, the bed capacity in the hospital has been increased to 500 from 350 following which people are now less inclined to go to private hospitals. Nearly 711 persons came to the hospital on September 13, while it was 745 the next day. The general ward had 784 patients on September 7 and 897 on September 8.

There is also an increase in the number of patients going to Matha Sishu Kendram with mothers and infants complaining of cold and cough. Nearly 506 pregnant women, and those who had just delivered, came to the Kendram on Friday.

Around 950 persons have undergone treatment for Covid-19 from September 7 to 16 while 215 are active cases in the hospital.

Resident medical officer B Srinivasa Rao said that incessant rains are spreading the mosquito menace.
