Milma milk hikes price by Rs 4/ litre

Rs 3.35 of the Rs 4 would be given to dairy farmers.

Thiruvananthapuram: The rate of Milma milk will go up by Rs 4 litre per litre from September 21 in the state. The new price hike would be applicable for all varieties of milk sold by Milma. The decision to hike the rates was taken in a meeting chaired by Minister for Diary Development K. Raju here on Friday. Mr Raju said that the rise in production cost for dairy farmers led to rise in milk price.

Rs 3.35 of the Rs 4 would be given to dairy farmers. Milma had demanded Rs 7 hike but the government turned down the proposal.

The officials said that the dairy farmers will get 83.75 percent of the price. The last time Milma hiked up the milk price was back in 2017. Then, Rs 3.35 of the increased amount was allotted to the dairy farmers.

According to officials, four percent each of the increased price will be given to the Milk cooperative societies and Milma milk distribution centres. Milma also plans to use 0.25 percent of the increased space for plastic eradication under the Green Kerala initiative.
