Hyderabad: Dug up before last Bonalu festival, Bhavaninagar road not fixed

There is not even a narrow path for a two-wheeler to pass.

Hyderabad: “The road was dug before last year’s Bonalu fest; this year’s festival has also passed but we have not got our road,” said a senior resident of Bhavaninagar in Old Bowenpally, pointing to the dug-up road awash in rain water.

There is not even a narrow path for a two-wheeler to pass. Road users either turn back and make a detour, or venture into the muddy water for a bumpy ride, praying they don’t fall into the water.

Another resident of the locality shows pictures of toppled riders. Mr Habeebuddin says it’s a daily ritual that at least one person loses control and falls into the water. “One day a milkman on his bicycle fell down and all his milk got wasted; another day a lady fell off her scooter while she was on the way to hospital on some personal work.”

“While on the one hand, dengue fevers are increasing in the city, we are left to our fate here. We are worried as the stagnant water is attracting mosquitoes in large numbers and we are unable to come out of our houses in the evening. We get dirty water from our taps as well, and are forced to buy drinking water from outside,” said another senior resident.

There is a primary school along the road and parents and children have to wade through the muddy water to get in and out of the school.

The road has been in this condition for more than a year now. Residents have complained to the counsellor Muddam Narasimha Yadav, who assured them the road would be built soon. But, as usual, it’s just words with no action on the ground.
