The total number of people infected with HIV in the country is 21.4 lakh.

A senior official of Telangana AIDS Control Society said, delay in funds is affecting the prevention and control programmes.

According to sources, the number of community workers has reduced and that is one of the reasons for the new cases.

Apart from that, migration from other states for work opportunities is also one of the reasons for the detection of newer cases being high in the state.
