National SC panel meets Anitha's kin in Ariyalur
ARIYALUR: The vice-chairman of the National Scheduled Castes Commission (NSCC) L.Murugan on Saturday visited the family members of the MBBS aspirant Anitha who had committed suicide recently at Kulumur village near Ariyalur, and held inquiries with them about the inicdent.
Mr. Murugan was accompanied by the commission's director for Tamil Nadu and Pudhucherry, Mr. Mathioyalagan, Ariyalur district collector, Ms. K.Lakshmipriya and others.
Later, Mr. Murugan told media persons that the family members of Anitha had told him that she had committed suicide because she was not selected for the MBBS course this year (due to her low Neet exam marks).
He said the commission had commenced its suo motu inquiry over the reported complaints that because of 'mental torture (Mana Alutham)' Anitha had committed suicide.
This apart, an inquiry committee headed by the district collector Ms. Lalshmipriya, district SP, Shri. Abhinav Kumar will also submit its report to the commission within a fortnight, he added. Mr. Murugan further said that the commission will recommend at least Rs 25 lakh as compensation to the family of Ms.Anitha.
