Tamil Nadu bandh makes its Cauvery point in peaceful way
Chennai: Friday’s bandh called by several associations and federations of farmers and traders demanding the formation of the Cauvery Management Board and to protest against attacks on Tamils in Karnataka over sharing of Cauvery water evoked a mixed response across Tamil Nadu.
The dawn-to-dusk bandh went off peacefully amid tight security. Most of the shops and petrol bunks remained closed. All opposition parties including the DMK supported the bandh. Over 35,000 people belonging to various political outfits who indulged in road and rail roko protests were detained by the police and later released. The bandh that started at 6 am was peaceful. Industries, including factories, IT companies, private and government offices were operating with near normality on Friday.
