Rahul Gandhi taking over Congress reins just a matter of time: Sachin Pilot
New Delhi: Rahul Gandhi should take over the Congress' reins, senior party leader Sachin Pilot said on Saturday, contending that it was just a "matter of time".
Pilot, who is the Rajasthan chief of Congress, said making Rahul the party president would help it move forward.
"When it comes to leadership, to be a prime minister, it takes a lot of energy. Rahul Gandhi was unanimously elected vice president of the party three-four years ago.
"I think it's a matter of time before he is elected as Congress president. I believe he should be elected party president so we can forge a new team and move forward...wisdom to elect leaders within the party must lie with party cadre," Pilot said at the India Today Mind Rocks Summit in Delhi.
AAP's young turk Raghav Chadha and Union Minister Anupriya Patel were the other panelists at the session 'New Blood, Old Tricks'.
Holding forth on dynastic politics, Chadha cited his non-political famililal background to buttress the point that AAP is "reshaping" the landscape of the country's polity.
"If an ordinary person like me who comes from an average middle class householdd is sitting on stage with a former
Union minister and a current Union minister, it is a testimony to the fact that AAP is reshaping the political landscape. I don't have a fancy surname, I am not a Gandhi, a Mufti, Paswan, Patel or Naik," Chadha said.
