MET department withdraws heavy rain warning for Hyderabad
Hyderabad: The MET department has withdrawn a heavy rainfall warning but the state will continue to receive light to moderate rains and thundershowers. In Hyderabad city, Balanagar received nearly 7 cm of rain, followed by Kukatpally and Madhapur at 5 cm.
Other areas such as Asifnagar, Srinagar Colony, Khairatabad and Monda Market received 4 cm of rain. Water stagnation was reported at Khan Lateef Khan estate, LB Stadium, Nampally, Kattamaisamma temple, Jubilee Hills checkpost and Habeebagar nala.
Rainwater entered Maruthinagar and Rajnagar as the Balkapur nala was flowing above the sewerage treatment plant level. A wall collapsed at Naidunagar on Friday; no injuries reported. In view of the continuous rains the GHMC has cancelled its general body meeting with 150 corporators.
Huge jam hits Warangal highway
Several motorists were stuck for hours after waterlogging and potholes led to a major traffic jam on the Warangal highway during the morning peak hours on Friday. Heavy rain resulted in three-feet of water stagnating on the highway stretch near Doordarshan TV studio, affecting traffic flow from Amberpet to Ghatkesar.
Heavy vehicles returning to Warangal and Nalgonda after Ganesh immersion duties added to the traffic jam, leaving regular motorists from Amberpet to Uppal stuck on the wet roads. Near Ramanthapur TV studio, the police had to divert vehicles. Around 9 am, staff from fire services, GHMC, traffic, and law and order began controlling the situation.
Fire services DG Rajiv Ratan said the department had deployed its personnel at 17 major waterlogging points. “Whenever there is heavy rain, we send our teams without waiting for phone calls,” he said.
