Hyderabad: Veena and Vani's dad says girls are trapped

The state government has not made its stand clear regarding shifting of the twins from the hospital to a state home.

Hyderabad: It’s been a month since conjoined twins Veena and Vani stepped out of Niloufer hospital, for a medical check-up in another hospital in the city. They have stayed at Niloufer Hospital for 10 years, with few outings.

While the girls stay in confinement, blame game is on between their parents, the hospital and the state government.

The twins’ father, M. Murali, held a silent protest on Friday holding a placard outside Niloufer Hospital demanding clarity on what the state government plans to do with the twins. Asked if he did not try to take the children out, Mr Murali, said “I tried a few times to take the girls out, but the hospital authorities denied permission. Sometimes I was told that if I am interested to take my daughters out, the hospital was ready to discharge them. But I cannot take care of them due to financial constraints.”

When contacted, a hospital official said, “The girls are admitted to a hospital and are under supervision. They cannot be allowed to go for outings. Moreover, their parents did not show much interest earlier. Now, they are making various demands.”

The state government has not made its stand clear regarding shifting of the twins from the hospital to a state home. Recently, as per sources, a team of representatives from Australia met state government officials and sought the medical reports of the twins.
