Bengaluru: There is allegedly an “organised” attempt to “terrorise” the court complexes in South India after a pressure cooker bomb exploded on the premises of the district court complex in Nellore in Andhra Pradesh on September 12, making it the fourth such terror attack in lower courts in South India since April this year.
While sources in intelligence agencies confirmed that these incidents cannot be “isolated, lone wolf” attacks, they are yet to figure out which terror outfit could be behind the blasts in the courts in AP, Kerala and Karnataka. So far, no terrorist organisation has claimed responsibility for any of these attacks.
The first incident, a low-intensity blast, took place on April 7, inside the court premises in Chittoor of AP, followed by a blast on June 15 in the court complex in Kollam in Kerala and in the toilets of Principal District Judge Court complex in Mysuru on August 1.
“With the fourth low-intensity blast in Nellore on September 12 it has become clear that there is an organised attempt to attack court premises in the region. The perpetrators may not want to kill people, but these could be brazen demonstrations to the government and the judiciary on the pending terror cases before the courts. There are too many similarities in all the four bomb blasts; in the choice of targets and the use of improvised explosive devices. The gap between two attacks also suggests similarity in the modus operandi,” said an officer on condition of anonymity.
