Udupi Deputy Commissioner orders authorities to carry out 10-12k covid tests a day

At least 20 contacts of a positive patient should be tested. Of these more than 10 should be primary contacts, Jagadeesh said

Udupi: In a move to control the spread of Covid in the district, Deputy Commissioner of Udupi G Jagadeesh directed the health authorities to carry out 10-12 thousand tests each day.

Udupi is one of the districts in Karnataka with a high positivity rate. The district administration is trying its best to drag it below 1 percent.

Jagadeesh said this during a meeting at his office on Tuesday.

"As per the directions of the Chief Minister during his recent visit, every positive person has to be shifted to Covid Care Center (CCC). The Health officer of the respective jurisdiction should visit the houses of the patients and decide if the patient should be shifted to Covid Care Center or allow him to be in home isolation. The house of the patient who is under Home isolation should be sealed down. The four houses nearby should be declared a containment zone," he directed.

He asked the officials to ensure the patient and the contacts do not move out. "If the people resist being shifted to Covid Care Center, the officials should take help from the police department," he directed.

"At least 20 contacts of a positive patient should be tested. Of these more than 10 should be primary contacts," he said.
