Kozhikode: Now, focus to help victims start anew
KOZHIKODE: The district is almost back on track with majority relief camps closed and the focus has been shifted to the rehabilitation of families returning homes by assisting them with food stuff and cleaning material.
In the district, as many as 31 camps are functioning with 1083 families and 3615 persons. Hundreds of volunteers are engaged in packing kits for families who return home from camps. Separate cleaning kit also are given to the families, district administration said in a press release.
Meanwhile most of the schools in the district which were denied permission to operate due to lack of proper repair, will open soon as 58 of the schools of the total 69 denied permission, have undergone proper repair works and received fitness certificate from the concerned authority. The maintenance works of remaining 11 schools would be completed by Sunday, it was pointed out.
In another move the district administration in association with Haritha Keralam Mission and industrial Training department has organised a repair camp for mobile phones and other electronic gadgets affected due to flood.
The repair camps would be held on Saturday and Sunday at Malabar Christian College. Camps would be also held at Feroke- August 17, Kunnamangalam- August 17, Vadakara –August 18, 19 , 20.
Moreover in a bid to extend all kinds of support to the flood hit, scientific and organised efforts would be ensured with the help of various departments and agencies.
In order to ensure emotional support to the victims, a monitoring committee with District Legal Services Authority secretary as chairman has been formed for the project. Various agencies including Local Self Governments, Institute of Mental Health and Neuroscience and district mental health programme are associating with the project. Training has been imparted to as many as 185 counselors in the area. Expert groups including psychiatrist, psychologist and psychiatric social worker also have been formed.
