Hyderabad: 5-year-old kidnapped girl rescued

The kidnapper had made an offer for the girl, who was having fever, when her parents gave her to him for a brief while.

Hyderabad: The Ramgopalpet police cracked the kidnap case of a five-year-old child on Friday, three days after the incident. The kidnapper had made an offer for the girl, who was having fever, when her parents gave her to him for a brief while.

A Ramgopalpet police official said that the girl's father, Mr B Raju, a resident of Bhagyan-agar Colony in Yapral, works at a function hall in Balamrai. His elder daughter Fathima, 5, who is studying at an anganwadi school in Yapral, was suffering from high fever. On Tuesday, Mr Raju along with his wife Hajira and children started for Niloufer Hospital in a bus to get Fathima checked up. They got down at Patny in Secunderabad and were walking towards the James Street railway station via the Parklane road when they were accosted by Shaik Saleem, a ragpicker who knows Mr Raju.

Mr Raju asked Saleem to hold Fathima while he and his wife and the other children went to get milk from a nearby eatery. “When we returned, Saleem and my daughter were missing,” Raju said in his complaint. Police said Fathima was kidnapped at about 11.10 am by Saleem. Mr Raju stated that he could recognise Saleem. The police also recovered footage from CCTV cameras in which Saleem was seen taking away the child. Special teams were formed to rescue the child and nab the suspect, said police. On Friday morning, police rescued Fathima. When questioned, Saleem reportedly stated that he abducted the girl as he does not have a daughter.
