Chennai: Rs 20 lakh stolen from Periamet leather shop

Chennai: A businessman who runs a leather shop at Periamet lost Rs 20 lakh in an attention diversion case on Thursday evening.

According to police, Ishtak Ahmed (47) owns a leather company near the high road in Periamet. Sources said Ishtak recently posted an advertisement on social media asking suppliers for laptop bags.

Responding to his post, a man introducing himself as Imran contacted him over phone and Ishtak invited him to his company godown. While the duo were talking, Imran asked for water and Ishtak stepped out to get a bottle of water from the next shop.

However, when he returned, Imran was missing. When he called him over the phone, Imran said he would return in a few minutes, but later his phone was switched off. Ishak did not think much about the odd turn of events and went about his work.

Only at around 9 pm on Thursday, he he realised that Rs 20 lakh kept in the cup-board in his shop was miss-
ing.

He rushed to Periamet police station and lodged a complaint about the missing cash. Police have initiated an inquiry.
