Chennai: A 47-year-old goods rail contractor was hacked to death by his two brothers-in-law in full public view on Sathyamoorthy high road in Vysarpadi on Thursday night. Goods rail contractor Jeyakumar (42) of Vysarpadi served as the Vysarpadi zonal secretary of the Congress party last year, sources said. At around 9: 30 pm on Thursday night, he was walking out of a restaurant on Sathyamoorthy high road at Vysarpadi, when he was attacked.
Eyewitnesses told us that a man who was talking to Jeyakumar stabbed him with a knife and Jeya Kumar started running. He was caught by another three men on two-wheelers. They stabbed him with knives continuously and fled the spot after people started to gather, said a police officer.
People from nearby residences and shops who witnessed the scene said that they alerted police and they took him to the Stanley government hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.
Vysarpadi police registered a case and began inquiries. Police collected CCTV footage from a nearby shop and found two of the assailants to be Jeya Kumar's brothers -in law, Vijaya Doss and Mohan Doss. Police said that Jeya Kumar had previous enmity with them andhave launched a search for them.
