Bengaluru: Jayadeva flyover demolition to be over by December

Bengaluru: The demolition of Jayadeva flyover, which used to provide the vital link between North and South Bengaluru, to make way for a metro station, is expected to plunge the area to traffic chaos for a long time.

BMRCL has now begun demolishing a loop of the flyover and it has already shifting the utilities from the area to facilitate the demolition. This loop is expected to be completely pulled down by next week.

A BMRCL official told Deccan Chronicle, “As per Friday's report the 60 percent of flyover (loop) has been demolished and by end of this month entire loop will be demolished and by next month the construction will be commence."

According to the BMRCL source the shifting of utilities was a major challenge and the demolition of the entire flyover will be over by December.

“To shift high tension wires, permission had to be obtained from the authorities," the official added.

The motorists will be allowed to use the underpass in both directions and the main lanes of the flyover along Outer Ring Road from Banashankari to Central Silk Board will be demolished. The loop is for motorists coming from Bannerghatta Road and heading to Central Silk Board junction has been demolished first.

To facilitate the work, BMRCL and traffic police have mapped out diversions for motorists. The authorities have decided to close the service road along the loop. Access will be given only to those who have properties on this road.
