Kerala floods: Muvattupuzha river swells
Kochi: The water level in Muvattupuzha River is increasing fast and the river has started overflowing. The Muvattupuzha town was inundated with knee deep water in many areas. Warning has been issued to those residing in Piravom, Puthencruz, Thiruvaniyoor, Mulanthuruthy and nearby areas.
Several areas like Kolencherry have been submerged with hundreds of families evacuated to safe places.
Many houses were damaged in heavy rains and flooding.
Relief camps were also opened. Major roads and junctions near Muvattupuzha town were inundated causing disruption in vehicle movement.
The Periyar river stretch at Kothamangalam too is overflowing, affecting the several tribal colonies in the Kuttampuzha sector. Several tribal colonies on the other side of the Pooyamkutty river have been cut off from the mainland.
